The name "Durga" in Sanskrit means "Invincible". The syllable "du" is synonymouswith the 4 devils of poverty, sufferings, famine and evil habits. The "r" refers to diseases and the "ga" is the destroyer of sins, injustice, irreligion, cruelty and laziness.
Durga killed the powerful demon Mahish and all his great commanders. Demonic forces are self-destructive but very powerful.
In Hinduism, one of the forms of the goddess Devi or Shakti, and the wife of Shiva. She was born fully grown, created out of flames that issued from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and other gods and embodying their collective energy (shakti). They created her to slay the buffalo-demon Mahisasura, whom they were unable to overcome. She is usually depicted riding a lion or tiger, each of her multiple arms bearing a weapon.

You are the speech (Vani), You like the music and song played by the flute the soft handed one, You are auspicious, Your face is like the reflection of the Moon, You killed Dhumraksha , You are the consciousness in all and You rule the Lords as Rajarajeshvari .

Meaning: I bow again and again to the Goddess, who dwells in all creatures in the name of Maya of Vishnu.Aartis are a common and everyday Hindu ritual, in which lamps made from cotton wicks dipped in Ghee or oil are lit and a prayer in praise of a deity is recited with devotion and love. Camphor balls are also lit as an alternative to oil or Ghee. The lamp is kept in a special Aarti plate or thali and at the end of the Aarti the light or flame is offered to all the persons attending the Aarti, where they put their hands over the flames and then put their hands on their faces and heads to seek the blessings of the deity.
